YOSEPH, A TYPE OF HaMASHIYACH

YOSEPH, A TYPE OF HAMASHIYACH

Taken from our Torah Parashat for today, Vayigash (and he drew near), Bereshis 44:18-47:27

1 And Yosĕph was unable to restrain himself before all those who stood by him, and he called out, “Have everyone go out from me!” So no one stood with him while Yosĕph made himself known to his brothers. 2 And he wept aloud, and the Mitsrites and the house of Pharaoh heard it. [Gen 43:30]; 3 And Yosĕph said to his brothers, “I am Yosĕph, is my father still alive?” But his brothers were unable to answer him, for they trembled before him.
4 Then Yosĕph said to his brothers, “Please come near to me.” And when they came near, he said, “I am Yosĕph your brother, whom you sold into Mitsrayim. Gen 37:28; Ps 105:17; Acts 7:9; Acts 7:13; 5 “And now, do not be grieved nor displeased with yourselves because you sold me here, for Elohim sent me before you to preserve life. Gen 50:19-21; [Gen 50:19]; [Ps 105:17]; 6 “For two years now the scarcity of food has been in the land, and there are still five years in which there is neither ploughing nor harvesting. [Gen 41:54];
7 “And Elohim sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant in the earth, and to give life to you by a great escape. 8 “So then, you did not send me here, but Elohim…” Bereshis 45:1-8 TS 2009

Just as the Kingdom of Yisra’el is seen through the tribes of Yahudah and Yoseph (Ephraim), so HaMashiyach may be seen as ben Yoseph, the suffering servant, and Mashiyach ben David, the conquering King that unites and delivers kol Yisra’el from all her enemies roundabout.

When He returns with His host, in clouds of glory as our Great Deliverer and Kinsman Redeemer, He will then be known to us as Mashiyach ben David. He will then fulfill the type foreshadowed by Yoseph, who stood before his brothers and identified himself to them as the one they had once so mercilessly hated and rejected. They, in utter amazement and the full realization of all the events that had brought them to this point, including their individual and corporate sin; with unspeakable joy were welcomed into his open arms. This beautiful scene will be repeated in the near future when all twelve are welcomed back as one to be echad with Him. So it is with great anticipation that we look forward to the time to come that is often referred to as “in that day”:
10 And in that day there shall be a Root of Yishai, standing as a banner to the people. Unto Him the nations shall seek, and His rest shall be esteem. [Rom 15:12]; [Rev 5:5]; [Rev 22:16]; 11 And it shall be in that day that יהוה sets His hand again a second time to recover the remnant of His people who are left, from Ashshur and from Mitsrayim, from Pathros and from Kush, from Ěylam and from Shin‛ar, from Ḥamath and from the islands of the sea. 12 And He shall raise a banner for the nations, and gather the outcasts of Yisra’ĕl, and assemble the dispersed of Yehuḏah from the four corners of the earth. Yeshayah (Is.) 11:10:12 TS 2009
HalleluYah to Him who is our banner, who gathers “…the outcasts of Yisra’el, and assembles the dispersed of Yehudah from the four corners of the earth”. Truly that will be a day greater than the day of our deliverance from Mitsrayim! I pray that I, along with each of you, will be there for this awesome and amazing reunion to take place in His Righteous Arms of mercy and forgiveness! HalleluYah!
Shabbat Shalom Kol Yisra’el!
